Arnaud De Lie has suffered an ankle injury. The 23-year-old rider announced it on New Year's Eve via Instagram. His team Lotto-Intermarché has since provided more information about the injury.
"I have sustained an ankle injury," De Lie wrote. "One of the ligaments is seriously damaged, but the situation is clear and work is underway. I have already started rehabilitation. Step by step."
It is unknown how De Lie sustained the injury. It is also unclear how long his recovery will take. However, it is clear that the Bull of Lescheret is already back on the bike. "He can ride in a controlled manner since the affected ligament is only minimally loaded during cycling. His preparation for the new season continues with the necessary adjustments."
De Lie recently told Het Nieuwsblad that he planned to start his season in January. He intended to make his debut at the GP Castellón-Ruta de la Ceramica (January 24) and then also race the Classica Comunitat Valenciana (February 25) and the Tour du Haut Var in February. Through these races, he aimed to prepare for Omloop Het Nieuwsblad. It remains to be seen whether his schedule will now need to be adjusted.
