Chris Horner lashes out at Patrick Lefevere: "Failed to properly train Remco Evenepoel"
Chris Horner has spoken out again. The American made history in 2013 by winning the Vuelta a España at the age of 41. The former climber now directs his criticism at Patrick Lefevere following an article in which the former Belgian team boss said he hates ex-colleague Ralph Denk of Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe.
"I enjoy reading Patrick Lefevere's articles because he always seems to be right, but in reality, he’s not 100% correct," says Horner. Besides discussing how to beat Tadej Pogačar, he addresses the negotiations around Remco Evenepoel. "So Patrick Lefevere, when I read the article, I thought: you’re an idiot. There’s no doubt about it, because you had six or seven years to properly train Remco Evenepoel. This kid is absolutely not well-trained; he is very fit. He has phenomenal legs."
"Are you wondering why the Belgian wonderkid, Remco Evenepoel, wants to leave Soudal-Quick-Step?" he continues. "Because you failed to properly develop him, to help him become a better rider and win more races. You haven’t taught him tactically how to race yet. Of course, it was time to leave the team and move to a stronger one. I’m not sure if they can teach Evenepoel anything, but at least he has a stronger team around him, which means he has more teammates in the finale than he did at Soudal-Quick-Step."
