Dylan Groenewegen still set to race in opening weekend

His participation was not yet certain, but now it is: Dylan Groenewegen will be at Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne on Sunday. The Dutch sprinter is part of the final selection of his team Unibet Rose Rockets. The French outfit with Dutch roots is mainly counting on Lukáš Kubiš for Saturday’s Omloop Het Nieuwsblad.

Let’s start with the first Flemish classic of the season: Omloop Het Nieuwsblad. In this WorldTour race, the focus from Unibet Rose Rockets’ perspective is mainly on the aforementioned Lukáš Kubiš. The Slovak champion is skipping Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne this year but aims for a strong result in the Omloop.

Expectations are high, as during his first participation in 2025 he immediately finished sixth. Kubiš will be accompanied by two riders making their WorldTour debut, Dutchman Martijn Rasenberg and Norwegian Kartsten Feldmann. Joren Bloem, Matyás and Tomás Kopecky, and Niklas Larsen complete the selection.

Rasenberg, Matyás Kopecky, and Larsen are gearing up for a busy racing weekend, as they are also expected to start Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne on Sunday. Hartthijs de Vries and Rory Townsend will be the fresh legs, as will Dylan Groenewegen.

The Dutch sprinter has very fond memories of KBK, having won this (semi)classic in 2018. If the race ends in a sprint finish again this year and Groenewegen is still in contention, he can likely count on the support of his reliable lead-out man Elmar Reinders.
