A sharp Pauline Ferrand-Prévot was faster than everyone this weekend in the toughest stages of the Tour de France Femmes. After her victory in Paris-Roubaix, the Frenchwoman said she lost four to five kilograms. In this way, she arrived very sharp at the start of the Tour, while her rival Demi Vollering said she wouldn’t want to go that far.
“Yes, I can still lose some weight, but I don’t want to be skin and bone,” HLN quoted her after the race. Vollering pointed out that she is seven centimeters taller than Ferrand-Prévot. “That’s why I’ll never be able to be as light as her.”
“I’m proud of myself as a heavyweight,” she laughed. “I want to be an example and hope that in the future I can win climbing races with my heavier weight. To show girls that you don’t have to be super skinny.”
According to Vollering, weight remains a sensitive topic in the women’s peloton. “For me it’s not hard to talk about it, but I know many girls and riders struggle with it. That’s not the case for me. For me, it’s a challenge to go for big wins in the mountains with the body I have.”
