Jonas Vingegaard crashes during training in Spain
Stories were already circulating on Strava that Jonas Vingegaard had crashed during training, and now his team Visma | Lease a Bike has confirmed this via social media. However, the Dutch outfit also brings reassuring news: the damage to the two-time Tour winner is manageable.
Vingegaard was training near the southern Spanish city of Málaga when the accident happened. "Jonas Vingegaard crashed during training on Monday," his team wrote on X. "Fortunately, he is okay and did not sustain any serious injuries."
Visma-Lease a Bike then addresses the fans. "In general, as a team we would like to urge cycling enthusiasts to always prioritize safety. For your own safety and that of others, we ask you to give riders the space they need to train and to allow them as much peace and room as possible."

The team made this appeal because several accounts about Vingegaard’s crash, and how it occurred, have been circulating on the popular training app Strava. The source is a message from amateur cyclist Pedro García Fernandez. The Spaniard claims to have been riding in the slipstream of the Visma | Lease a Bike rider just before he went down.
"Jonas crashed after he tried to shake me off on a descent. I then stopped to ask how he was doing, but he was angry because I tried to follow him." Several eyewitnesses confirmed García Fernandez’s account.
