Will Jonas Vingegaard go for the Giro d'Italia-Tour de France double in 2026? The Dane and his team Visma | Lease a Bike have not decided yet. But Vingegaard told La Dernière Heure that he would prefer to win the Giro next year over the Tour.
“Winning three Grand Tours or the Tour de France in 2026? I think I’d rather win the three Grand Tours," said Vingegaard, who already has the Tour de France (2022, 2023) and Vuelta a España (2025) on his palmarès. "The Giro is still left… But we haven’t decided if next season’s schedule will align with that. We still need to discuss it with the team. The Tour remains, of course, the biggest goal. But now it’s about whether we can combine the two next year.”
Room for improvement
Over the past two years, Vingegaard has been up against an unbeatable Tadej Pogacar in the Tour de France. “Sometimes it really seems like Tadej Pogacar is unbeatable,” the Dane acknowledges. "He is very strong. He is undeniably the best rider in the world at the moment. But if I were to tell myself he can’t be beaten, that would mean giving up. So I won’t do that."
"I think I at least have a chance to beat him. I am still developing, and I feel like I’m just back to the level I was at before my crash in the 2024 Tour of the Basque Country. It’s taking longer than I expected to come back, but right now I can push the same watts as before the crash. And I feel I still have room to get better. But maybe that applies to him as well…”
