Lucinda Brand is unstoppable! In her fifth cyclocross race of the season, the Dutch rider secured her fourth victory. On Sunday, she was the best in the Rapencross after breaking away with two laps to go from an elite group that included Sara Casasola and Aniek van Alphen. "These are the perfect weekends," she said in the quick interview.
Brand identifies staying calm as the key to her win. It took a while during the race before we really saw the former world champion at work, but according to her, the Dordrecht native always had control.
"The bike changes I made were very deliberate. My start today wasn’t great, but I’ve learned not to panic in those moments. That made the difference today," she continued.
With two laps remaining, Brand then made her move. Had she planned to attack there? "Well, I was more anticipating. Sara had just gone through a difficult section and I heard her breathing. I know that doesn’t say much, but I thought: let’s see where this leads."
