Mathieu van der Poel wants to end his career at Alpecin-Premier Tech
Mathieu van der Poel’s current contract with Alpecin-Premier Tech runs until the end of 2028. That’s a significant year, featuring both the Cyclocross World Championships in Hoogerheide and, of course, the Olympic Games in Los Angeles. Whether the then 33-year-old Dutchman will retire is still uncertain. However, he does want to finish his career with his current team.
Van der Poel revealed this on the Whoop Podcast. "I was already getting bikes from Christoph and Philip Roodhooft when I was sixteen years old," MVDP explains. "I signed my first pro contract at eighteen, so I’ve been a pro with the team for more than twelve years. I think that’s because of my personality and who I am. I perform best when I’m with people and friends I trust. The Roodhooft brothers feel more like family and friends than like my bosses."
The 31-year-old Dutchman has no reason to complain. "I perform well and have everything I need here to do so. I’ve never had a reason to change that. I also love continuity. The team has always been there for me, even during the hard times. Those are things I don’t forget. It would be great to finish my career with the same team where I started. That’s a cool story."
