Recovered Jonas Vingegaard adds Paris-Nice to race calendar

Jonas Vingegaard will line up at the start of Paris-Nice in early March. Due to illness and a crash, he had to postpone his season debut at the UAE Tour.

The two-time Tourwinner crashed during a descent in training at the beginning of February. There was a lot of controversy around the crash because, according to Vingegaard, it was partly caused by an amateur rider who was drafting behind him. The damage initially seemed minor, but combined with illness, it prevented him from starting what was supposed to be his first race of the season.

Earlier, the team stated that the Vuelta a Catalunya would “probably” be his next race, but the Catalan stage race doesn’t start until March 23. Between March 8 and 15, he will now also compete in Paris-Nice.

"I’m excited to line up again at Paris-Nice," the Dane said through his team Visma | Lease a Bike. "It is a prestigious race with a lot of history, and as a team, we have a title to defend there. After my crash and illness, I took the necessary time to recover."

"Now I feel ready to race again; I’m looking forward to it after a long winter of intense training," Vingegaard concluded. His main goals lie later in the season, at the Giro d'Italia and Tour de France.
