Lotte Kopecky was a shadow of her former self in the Tour de France Femmes. The world champion couldn't once contend for the victory and was more than happy on Sunday evening that the stage race had ended. Sporza commentator Ine Beyen believes Kopecky needs to draw her conclusions: "Some boxes just can't be ticked."
Beyen, who provided commentary for Sporza alongside Ruben Van Gucht during the past Tour, saw Kopecky gradually getting better throughout the week. "Lotte showed herself more and more in the peloton, proving she still had the drive. On Sunday, two teammates – Van der Breggen and Gerritse – broke away, and you could see the playful side of Kopecky wanting to bridge across to them. That was nice to see," she writes in her column for Het Nieuwsblad.
Still, the recent women's Tour de France remains a disappointment for Kopecky. Beyen thinks Kopecky should approach things differently from now on. "The final conclusion is simple: she should focus on what she does very well and not try to tick every box. Some boxes just can't be ticked," the former rider says.
