Coach Behind Vingegaard's Success Leaves Team Visma | Lease a Bike Abruptly
Tim Heemskerk is leaving Team Visma | Lease a Bike with immediate effect. The coach, who worked with Jonas Vingegaard among others, spent a total of eight years with the team.
Heemskerk can rightfully be called a successful coach. In recent years, he was the dedicated trainer of Vingegaard, with whom he won the Tour de France twice and the Vuelta a España once. Now, for the first time during his tenure with the team, the Dane will have a different coach.
"I noticed lately that I was struggling to keep using my creativity and passion, which are important to me in my role as a coach. That was the moment for me to be honest with myself and the team," Heemskerk said in the press release.
"I look back with pride on the growth of the team, myself, and the riders, including of course Jonas. In the coming period, I will take time for myself and reflect on my future."
Heemskerk played an important role
Mathieu Heijboer also thanked his colleague in the press release. "We are extremely grateful to Tim for his contributions over the past years within the team. He has played a major role in developing the training philosophy we employ in our squad and in achieving our sporting results," Heijboer said.
"I have had many conversations with Tim recently, and I believe this is the best outcome. I wish him all the best in his future career."
