The Unibet Tietema Rockets have announced the arrival of Jayco AlUla riders Dylan Groenewegen and Elmar Reinders. As a former Dutch champion and multiple stage winner in the Tour de France, Groenewegen is the biggest signing in the history of the ProTeam.
According to the team, Groenewegen is expected to become a key player in the squad's ambition to eventually become a stable WorldTeam. “The arrival of Dylan marks a big step forward for our project,” says owner Bas Tietema. “With this, we show that we are very serious about our ambition to elevate the team to a higher level. With Elmar joining as well, we have a strong group to be competitive in Grand Tours and at WorldTour level.”
“It’s not just that we wanted to sign a big name,” Tietema explains. “But Dylan understood our vision and was eager to be part of this project. His hunger to win, combined with his belief in our vision, makes him the right man in the right place.”
On paper, moving from WorldTour to ProTeam level is a step back for Groenewegen, but he doesn’t see it that way himself. “I've been part of teams that were on their way to the top, like in the early years of Jumbo-Visma. Everything wasn’t perfect back then, but those were the years I enjoyed the most. It’s nice to ride for a team that’s growing and wants to prove itself every day.”
“I find that same energy in this team,” Groenewegen adds. “They are working towards their big goal of riding the Tour de France, and I can’t wait to write the next chapter together.”
