Matteo Trentin may now be 36 years old, but the Italian still performs at a high level. At the end of last year, he won Paris-Tours for the third time. However, the classics specialist is preparing for what could be his very last year as a professional cyclist.
In an interview with SpazioCiclismo, the Tudor Pro Cycling rider talks about his future. "My contract ends after this season, so this is for now my last pro year. I don’t have a contract for the following years. I've already discussed it with the team and if it's possible to continue, why not? It depends just as much on me as on the team."
After a long cycling career, Trentin increasingly reflects on life after the bike. "After a fifteen-year pro career, my kids are growing up and it’s not just about my work and cycling anymore. However, I still love cycling, training, racing, and the adrenaline. We’ll see how it goes throughout the year."

Before making a decision, the former European champion is gearing up for a new racing season. "My classics season starts with the opening weekend in Belgium," Trentin refers to Omloop Het Nieuwsblad and Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne. "Then comes Paris-Nice and the usual spring classics. And of course, there’s the Tour de France in the summer."
Participation in the Giro d'Italia is also still possible. "But it depends on my condition after the classics. If you can get through the classics season in good weather, it’s definitely feasible. But if we have to race the classics in bad weather, it becomes much harder to also contest the Giro. It’s always a tough combination."
