Brandon Rivera storms to Colombian time trial title at astonishing speed

Brandon Rivera is the new Colombian time trial champion. The 29-year-old rider from INEOS Grenadiers covered the 44 kilometers around Zipaquirá at an average speed of no less than 56.096 kilometers per hour.

With that, the Colombian was minutes ahead of the competition. Only Daniel Felipe Martinez and Rodrigo Contreras managed to finish within two minutes of Rivera.

Egan Bernal, the Colombian time trial champion a year earlier, finished fifth and had to concede more than three minutes to his flying compatriot.

In the women's race, 39-year-old Diana Peñuela claimed the title for the third consecutive time. She stayed just seven seconds ahead of Camila Valbuena after nearly 27 kilometers. Later this week, the Colombian road championships will also take place.
