The KNWU has announced the selection for the Flamanville World Cup (Sunday, November 30). among the women, Lucinda Brand, the leader in the World Cup, will not be participating. Just like in recent weeks, Fem van Empel is also absent this time, but Ceylin del Carmen Alvarado is making her comeback.
Brand won last Sunday’s opening round of the World Cup in Tábor but will skip the second race of the series. She has chosen to continue training this weekend. Van Empel, who missed recent races after withdrawing from the Koppenbergcross, will also not be competing in France yet.
However, we will see Alvarado back in action. She missed the start of the cyclocross season due to an annoying knee injury but is now ready to race again. Representing the Netherlands among the women are also Inge van der Heijden, Leonie Bentveld, Aniek van Alphen, and Shirin van Anrooij, among others.
In the elite men’s category, we see the same selection as in Tábor, including Joris Nieuwenhuis, Ryan Kamp, Lars van der Haar, and Pim Ronhaar. “We are simply starting with a strong and deep squad. And the men showed in Tábor that their form is good and keeps improving,” said national coach Gerben de Knegt on the KNWU website. the name Senna Remijn stands out among the under-23 riders. He will be racing his first cyclocross of this winter.
De Knegt calls Flamanville “one of the most beautiful races” of the World Cup. “A true French classic with a stunning course around a castle. There is a lot of variety due to the different surfaces and hills the riders must conquer. It’s constant anticipation, and the right technique will be crucial for how the race unfolds, making it a very fair cross.”
