Ceylin del Carmen Alvarado started the cyclo-cross season strong but was set back somewhat by illness. She now seems to be on the mend with a second place in Antwerp behind Lucinda Brand.
"I am hopeful for the Christmas period. From here, it can only get better. Hopefully, my form can continue to improve. I have confidence in that," Alvarado said in the flash interview after the World Cup in Antwerp.
Still, Alvarado fought for the win in Antwerp for a long time against Lucinda Brand. "Lucinda was in top form. You can’t deny that. I’m still building up because I’ve been sick. That’s not easy because it puts things on hold. That’s a shame, but I hope I’m back on track now."
During the race in Antwerp, the Dutch rider didn’t have too many illusions due to her disrupted buildup. "I already felt during the race that it was going to be tough. The candle was going out. Then you have to hope for a mistake from Lucinda, but I knew it was going to be difficult," she concluded.
