The chance that Jonas Vingegaard will start the Giro d'Italia for the first time in 2026 is growing every day. Now, "sources close to the Dane" have also informed the usually well-informed Feltet that the two-time Tour winner will travel to Bulgaria in 2026 for the Grande Partenza of the Giro d'Italia.
"The decision has been made and will be revealed next week during the media day of Visma | Lease a Bike," writes the website. That media day is scheduled for January 13 in La Nucia, Spain. Furthermore, the Tour de France will again be on the Dane's race calendar.
The rumors that Vingegaard will ride the Giro for the first time are not new. The Visma | Lease a Bike climber himself had already hinted at being open to participation. For example, he said in November that in 2026 he would rather win his first Giro than his third Tour. In the same interview, Vingegaard added that the Tour was "of course the biggest goal."
Last week, the Spanish Marca, based on sources within the organizers, reported that there is an agreement with the Dane to ride the race this year. However, for real certainty, we still have to wait a week.
