Egan Bernal became in 2019 the first (and still only) Colombian to win the Tour de France. That year, the climber rode up the cobblestones of the Avenue des Champs-Élysées on a yellow bike. This iconic bike was then safely stored at his home for years, but it was stolen by thieves this week.
In a video interview with Colombian journalist Diego Rueda, Bernal explains what happened. "Guys, I have something to tell you. Imagine: my bike is gone. We are now investigating exactly what took place. I hope there will be clarity soon."
The INEOS Grenadiers rider adds that the available camera footage is being analyzed, and they are trying to find out how this burglary could have happened. No further details are being released for now.

Bernal made history in 2019 by becoming the first Colombian to win the Tour de France. After three weeks of racing, he stayed ahead of his teammate Geraint Thomas (the 2018 Tour winner) and Dutch rider Steven Kruijswijk in the final general classification standings.
