Felix Gall has climbed to Carí before but doesn't really remember it
After a much-needed rest day, the riders in the Giro d'Italia are getting ready again for the notorious final week. The climbing starts immediately because the finish line is set on the final ascent to Carì. For Felix Gall, this is a very important day.
The third-placed rider in the general classification is ready for another uphill battle. "It’s warm, so yesterday during training I did some more intense efforts. Actually much harder than I normally would, because in the past I sometimes struggled to get back into the right rhythm after a rest day," he said before the start to Flo Bikes and Cycling Pro Net.
"Hopefully, that won’t be a problem today. At least I slept well, which is already very nice in the third week of a Grand Tour. I think there’s a chance that Visma | Lease a Bike will control the race today. That would be great to make it a tough finale again. The final climb should suit me in principle."
"Jonas (Vingegaard, ed.) and his team really seem to be on another level compared to the competition. For me personally, it’s mainly a battle for the podium and that is still very close. If you look at the results, I’ve been doing very well so far. I’m happy with that, but the time gaps are small. I just hope I can maintain this form."
"I’ll probably recognize it immediately again"
Today’s final climb isn’t uncharted territory for Gall, right? "I should know that, but honestly I don’t remember every climb I’ve ever ridden in my career. It’s true that I was here two years ago with the Tour de Suisse, but I don’t remember the details exactly. I’m pretty sure that I will recognize the climb immediately again during the finale, in the last kilometers."
