The KNWU has announced the selection for the Tábor World Cup (November 23). World Champion Fem van Empel, who skipped recent cyclocross races following a withdrawal at the Koppenbergcross, will also not be present in the Czech Republic yet. Shirin van Anrooij will, however, participate. She is starting her cyclocross season.
Besides Van Anrooij, the focus among the Dutch elite women is mainly on Lucinda Brand, Inge van der Heijden, and Aniek van Alphen. Also traveling to Tábor are Annemarie Worst, Manon Bakker, Leonie Bentveld, Denise Betsema, Bloeme Kalis, and Lauren Molengraaf.
There are few surprises in the elite men’s selection. The team consists of Lars van der Haar, Pim Ronhaar, Joris Nieuwenhuis, Mees Hendrikx, Ryan Kamp, and Danny van Lierop. "Compared to the European Championships, there is an upward trend in the number of men," says national coach Gerben de Knegt on the KNWU website. "For example, Joris Nieuwenhuis took victory last weekend in the Superprestige Merksplas, and Lars van der Haar’s form is also improving steadily."
"So, the Netherlands has enough riders in contention for podium spots, but we also see that other countries are gaining form, and several big names have returned. The ladies, for example, face strong competition from Luxembourg’s Marie Schreiber."
