Filippo Ganna already focuses on Milano-San Remo after time trial win in Algarve

Filippo Ganna won the time trial in the Algarve on Friday. The Italian stayed ahead of Juan Ayuso and Jakob Söderqvist and was 'very happy' with the result afterward. However, he immediately added a caveat: "My form is really not at its best yet."

The 29-year-old Italian told the camera of WielerFlits that he simply 'followed the team's plan' to win. "This past winter, I didn't really focus much on time trialing. Well, we did tweak the position a bit, but it always remains somewhat of a lottery."

Ganna then said that the spring classics are currently his main goal. That’s why he is not yet in top shape. "I'm building up to the big targets of the season. My form isn't at its peak yet, but it doesn’t have to be until about a month from now, and then I have to maintain it for another month," he added.

What those big targets are? In a little over a month, Milano-San Remo is on the calendar. There, the Italian hopes to improve on his second place from last year. "We're aiming for San Remo, and after that, we'll see. For now, I'm very happy with this win, I always enjoy coming to the Algarve."
