Filippo Ganna breaks record at Tirreno-Adriatico: "But I don't feel great"
Filippo Ganna impressively won the opening time trial of Tirreno-Adriatico 2026 on Monday afternoon. The Italian time trial champion completed the chrono in a course record. Still, the 29-year-old pace specialist was not entirely satisfied with his own feelings, although he did praise INEOS Grenadiers across the board.
Of course, Ganna was happy with his victory. "I didn't want to push my legs too hard. My first goal of the year is still a few weeks away. That's why I'm really happy with this result. The form is good, the legs are working well. But I'm not completely happy with how I feel. I don't feel amazing, but the result is. Also, Thymen Arensman and Magnus Sheffield (second and fourth, ed.) did excellent. For us as a team, that’s very, very, very good."
Ganna hopes the weather conditions remain the same over the coming days, with little wind and lots of sun. "Will I really save energy these next days for Milan-San Remo? Of course I don’t want to lose the leader’s jersey. I’ll fight for it wherever I can. I would like to win another stage this week, but that won’t be easy. We’re doing our best, and I’ll try to support the team as well as possible. Then we’ll see what we can do this week."
