Former sprinter Niccolo Bonifazio helps Tadej Pogacar during training... on a scooter
During his training behind the motorbike, world champion Tadej Pogacar is now often accompanied by Niccolo Bonifazio, the two-time winner of the GP Jef Scherens who retired as a professional cyclist at the end of 2024.
Bonifazio is therefore no stranger to the peloton. During his years with Lampre-Merida, Trek-Segafredo, Bahrain-Merida, TotalEnergies, Intermarché-Wanty, and Corratec-Vini Fantini, he scored a total of 21 professional victories. Since his retirement from the peloton, he apparently plays his role supporting the best rider in the world. On his motorbike, he regularly takes Pogacar by the hand.
"We first met during the Tour of Croatia in 2018," Bonifazio writes on Instagram. "I won the first stage there, and afterward, I heard riders talking about a new top talent who was growing very quickly. Later, starting with the Tour de France in 2020, he showed the world what a great talent he is. But he's also a good guy."
"Often we meet without having arranged it, but every time we can laugh together. It feels blissful to train alongside Tadej and push him on the bike to his limits. Full gas!" says the Italian.
