What’s the situation with Chris Froome now? Officially, the four-time Tour de France winner has not announced the end of his career, but it increasingly looks like the 40-year-old Brit has ridden his last professional kilometers. His contract with (now) NSN Cycling Team was not renewed, but is Froome really ready to hang up his bike?
What we know is that the Grand Tour rider is back training, just over three months after a serious training crash. "It was a tough road after my last crash, but it feels so good to finally be here again," he wrote on Instagram. "To get the legs turning and to be able to train once more. You learn something from every setback. I’ve learned not to rush anything and to enjoy the little things in life."
The British rider suffered a heavy crash during training at the end of August, not far from his home in Monaco, and was rushed to hospital. He sustained multiple fractures as well as a life-threatening heart injury in the accident. The latter was only discovered during surgery, but after a successful operation and rehabilitation, Froome was able to leave the hospital in early September.

It has now been almost two months, and Froome is back on the bike, but is this with an eye on a comeback to the peloton? If so, he’ll have to find a new team at the last minute for the upcoming cycling season, because the once highly successful Grand Tour rider cannot stay with NSN Cycling Team, formerly Israel-Premier Tech.
During his five seasons with the team, Froome was never able to make a significant impact and has hinted several times at the end of his career. However, he has yet to make a definitive statement on the matter.
