Fränk Schleck is joining Lidl-Trek Women. The 45-year-old former pro will take on the role of team manager for the Women's WorldTour squad.
"It feels amazing to be back," said Schleck, who ended his professional cycling career in 2016 with Trek-Segafredo. "This team means a lot to me, and it gives me a sense of pride and familiarity to return to a place with so many great memories. Watching from the outside, I immediately saw the energy and direction of the project. The camp in October showed me how determined everyone is to raise the bar. It’s incredibly motivating to now be part of that."
"Personally, I want to contribute as much as possible, both on and off the bike and help take the team to the next level. Success for me means achieving our shared goals. I’m grateful for this opportunity and look forward to sharing my experience and knowledge with the team.”
Career
Schleck was a pro from 2003 through 2016. The Luxembourger notched nineteen career victories, including the Amstel Gold Race, Tour de Suisse, a stage at the Vuelta a España, and two stages in the Tour de France. In the Tour, he also finished in the top ten four times: tenth in 2006, fifth in both 2008 and 2009, and third in 2011. That year, he shared the podium in Paris alongside his younger brother Andy (second behind Cadel Evans).
