Mathieu van der Poel and Greg Van Avermaet went for a run together in Spain on Wednesday. The Belgian and the Dutchman completed a 13-kilometer loop along the coast near Xàbia, as seen on Strava.
In the photo, we see Van der Poel smiling broadly, but if we believe the caption, Van Avermaet was having a good day. "Mattie writing at a distance," he playfully titles it. To this, Van der Poel responds: "Thanks for waiting for me."
After a good vacation, Van der Poel has resumed training, team director Christophe Roodhooft reported this weekend. The plan is to present Van der Poel’s program during the announcement of the World Championships in Hulst, scheduled for the end of November.
Last year, Van der Poel’s team only announced his cyclocross program in the second week of December. Originally, the leader of Alpecin-Deceuninck intended to race eleven cross events in the 2024-2025 winter, but due to a rib fracture, that number was reduced to eight. The Dutchman successfully finished his campaign with a seventh world title.
