A striking equipment transfer: Greg Van Avermaet is saying goodbye to BMC after a long time. The former professional cyclist is making the switch to the Italian bike brand Basso. The Olympic champion from Rio is set to elevate the bike manufacturer to an even higher level as Head of Riding Experience.
The now 40-year-old Van Avermaet—who remains very active as a gravel rider and triathlete—will work closely with Basso’s R&D department (Research & Development). "To translate millions of pedal strokes into technical innovation and better bikes," reads a press release.
"Basso has spent nearly fifty years perfecting the cycling experience. I have spent my life searching for that 'golden' feeling, the moment when everything falls into place. As Head of Riding Experience, I want to connect those two worlds and lead the product development at Basso," Van Avermaet said enthusiastically about his new role. "The opportunity to help build this brand motivates me tremendously."
