Ineos talent Nicolas Milesi strikes in Olympia's Tour time trial
The individual time trial at Metec Olympia's Tour was won by Nicolas Milesi. The Italian from the INEOS Grenadiers development team beat his teammate Cameron Rogers and Visma talent Henry Hobbs. Elmar Abma (VolkerWessels) and Kristian Egholm (Lidl-Trek Future Racing) completed the top five. The latter also took over the race lead from Roy Hoogendoorn.
On the second day of Olympia's Tour, a 10.9-kilometer time trial was on the program. The start and finish were in Beltrum, a village in Gelderland. On the pancake-flat course, Aldo Tallieu (Visma | Lease a Bike Development) quickly posted a blistering time. One after another, riders failed to beat the Belgian’s 13'43". This also applied to his teammate Ashlin Barry, although the American came very close, conceding just one second.
In the end, Nicolas Milesi (INEOS Grenadiers Racing Academy) was the first to beat Tallieu’s time—and did so by a wide margin. The Italian was no less than 28 seconds faster than the Visma | Lease a Bike Development rider. No one managed to challenge Milesi’s mark after that. His teammate Cameron Rogers came closest, finishing six seconds behind. Henry Hobbs (Visma | Lease a Bike Development) took third place at eleven seconds off the pace.
Egholm new leader
GC leader Roy Hoogendoorn finished 59th, more than a minute behind Milesi. He dropped to 17th in the overall standings. Kristian Egholm, who placed fifth in the time trial, took over the yellow jersey. Rik van der Wal (EEW-VDK) now sits second, three seconds behind Egholm.
