Marie Schreiber is still not recovered from the injury she sustained at the X2O Trophy Hamme. After having to run on the asphalt to reach the finish line in that cyclocross race, she developed issues with her psoas muscle: the muscle that runs from the inside of the thigh, through the pelvis, along the lower back. As a result, the Luxembourger now has to miss the Flamanville World Cup.
"No World Cup for me this weekend, because I currently have a muscle injury in my leg...", Schreiber laments in a message on Instagram. "But as they say: every setback is a build-up to a comeback."
Last weekend, Schreiber did start in the Tábor World Cup, but she didn’t reach the finish. “The preparation for Tábor wasn’t ideal because Marie had problems with her psoas muscle following the incident last week, where she had to run on asphalt to the finish line,” said Sanne Cant, currently coach of SD Worx-Protime in cyclocross, afterwards. “Sprinting in cyclocross shoes isn’t good for muscles and joints.”
“Still, we were looking forward to Tábor. She started well but crashed after the barriers. She fell on her right leg, the same leg where she was experiencing muscle problems. After the crash, she had no strength left in her right leg. So it was a logical decision to stop. Now it’s time to recover.”
Cant and SD Worx-Protime stated after Tábor that they were not worried about Schreiber’s cyclocross season, but the Luxembourger will miss the Flamanville World Cup. It remains unclear when we will see her back in action.
