Isaac Del Toro calls power display on Jebel Hafeet one of the best in his career
Isaac Del Toro pulled off an impressive double in the sixth stage of the UAE Tour by winning the stage and taking the leader’s jersey, distancing Antonio Tiberi of Bahrain Victorious. After the finish, he expressed his happiness in the flash interview.
The Mexican indicated that the mental aspect was decisive today. "I wanted to believe and be convinced that I could win. It was a mental game. I tried to stay confident and keep trying. If it doesn’t work once, you have to tell yourself it can still happen," he said.
After Del Toro’s first attack, Tiberi managed to stay on his wheel, but following a second acceleration by the Mexican champion, the Italian had to let go. "In the end, it had to happen in the last 2.5 kilometres. That’s when I knew I had to push through. I saw I had a gap and tried to believe in it and ride to the finish to widen it."
The climber, who has already won a stage in the Giro d’Italia, rates this victory remarkably highly. "This one is definitely in my top 3 victories. It’s very special, especially when you can win with a team like this. It’s time to realize I’ve worked hard for it and need to believe more in myself," concluded the stage winner.
