Filippo Ganna receives fine after winning time trial at Volta ao Algarve

Filippo Ganna took his first win of the season on Friday in the third stage of the Volta ao Algarve, but the victory in the time trial was followed by a small twist with a fine for the Italian rider from INEOS Grenadiers.

Ganna was fined after the stage because he did not make his bike and equipment available for inspection at least ten minutes before the start of the time trial. The fine amounts to 200 Swiss francs, according to the jury report from the race organization. There are no further consequences for the stage result.

Ganna was not the only rider fined for this reason. Twelve other riders, including Ganna's teammates Bob Jungels and Kévin Vauquelin, were also penalized. The largest fine went to Christian Knees, the INEOS Grenadiers team director, who must pay 200 Swiss francs per penalized rider — a total of 600 francs.
