Isaac Del Toro crowned himself national time trial champion earlier this week, and now he can also call himself the Mexican road race champion. The rising star of UAE Emirates XRG was too strong for the competition on his training routes. "I hope cycling can continue to grow here," was his message after the race.
"It was a pleasure to achieve this victory. It was great to share it with the people from my hometown. I think I recognized 98% of the crowd today, and that felt amazing," Del Toro said ecstatically after his first Mexican road title. He celebrated his latest win with the fans along the roadside.

The top favorite fully lived up to his status but spoke afterward about a tough race. "It was really windy on the course, which made the race even harder, but I am proud and happy that I was able to take the win."
Growth of cycling in Mexico
Yet the man who managed to achieve sixteen professional victories this season (with the national titles included, that makes eighteen) was mainly focused on the bigger picture afterward. "I hope cycling in Mexico can keep growing. That will of course take time, but a lot of positive things are already happening and I hope I can contribute a little to that."
In September, it emerged that the organizers of GP Quebec and GP Montreal are in talks with Del Toro’s home country about organizing a professional cycling race. “I’m currently in discussions about a joint venture to see if there’s an opening there,” said Sébastien Arsenault, president of the Canadian WorldTour races, to Cyclingflash.
With double gold at the Mexican championships, Del Toro’s long season comes to an end. "It has been an amazing season, but now it’s time to rest well. Although I’m really looking forward to wearing the Mexican champion’s jersey in 2026," he concluded.
