Isaac Del Toro achieved one success after another in 2025, but the Mexican managed to secure an award at the last minute. The UAE Emirates rider was named Sports Idol of the Year in his home country.
The still only 22-year-old Del Toro had a season to remember. The Mexican top talent notched up no less than eighteen victories: only his teammate Tadej Pogacar (20 wins) and Paul Magnier (19 wins) surpassed him in 2025.
Del Toro won, among others, Milan-Turin, the tours of Austria and Burgos, and as many as seven Italian autumn classics, including the Coppa Sabatini, Giro dell'Emilia, and Gran Piemonte. In October, he also crowned himself Mexican national champion in both the time trial and the road race.

Isaac Del Toro thus experienced a phenomenal season with no fewer than eighteen victories. Still, that total might have actually been nineteen. Due to a gamble, the 21-year-old Mexican lost the general classification in the Giro d’Italia during the 20th stage over the Colle delle Finestre.
Del Toro talks about the decisive stage in which he lost the pink jersey as a tough day both physically and mentally. "But it is something that makes me stronger for the future. And of course, when I think about it now, I would have preferred to have lost after we had fought full throttle, but unfortunately that was not the case. It is something that hurts," he said last month in an interview with Ciclismo Internacional.
