Italian cycling prospect (18) dies after collision

A tragic accident in Italy on Sunday afternoon. Italian prospect Francesco Mazzoleni lost his life after being hit by a car during his training. The young rider was only eighteen years old. Since this year, he has been riding for the club team Team Goodshop Yoyogurt.

His team announced the death of their young rider – who, as far as is known, was not related to former pro Eddy Mazzoleni – via Instagram.

"It is a very sad Sunday for us. Our Francesco Mazzoleni has left us far too soon. He was hit during a training ride on his home roads, doing what he loved most. We all gather in painful silence around Francesco's family. We will always carry with us your smile and the determination that drove you to chase your dream. You are and will remain one of our Oranges."

According to Tuttobici, the accident occurred around 2:30 p.m. on a provincial road in Barzana. Police and two ambulances responded, but all help was too late for Mazzoleni. An investigation was conducted at the scene. The Italian was hit from the opposite direction by a Ford Focus driven by a 30-year-old from Madone.

The impact was severe: Mazzoleni was thrown several meters through the air, and his bicycle broke in two. The funeral will take place next Wednesday.
