Jarno Widar will participate in the Vuelta a España in his debut year as a professional. He will also race two Monuments: Liège-Bastogne-Liège and the Giro di Lombardia. The 20-year-old Belgian shared this in an interview with Het Laatste Nieuws.
"Normally, I race Strade Bianche, La Flèche Wallonne, and Liège-Bastogne-Liège in the spring," said Widar. "Maybe also the Amstel Gold Race, but that depends on how I come out of the Tour of the Basque Country."
A journey of discovery
"After that, the Vuelta will be my first Grand Tour, and I finish the season with the Giro di Lombardia. I’m really looking forward to it—we can only dream and do our best. It will be a journey of discovery, you know. I’m very curious about that."
Widar makes the step up with strong credentials from the Lotto development team to the merged Lotto and Intermarché-Wanty squad. The climber has scored numerous major wins in the U23 category over the past two seasons.
He claimed victory in the Giro d'Italia Next Gen (2024), Alpes Isère Tour (2024), Ronde de l'Isard (2025), Liège-Bastogne-Liège U23 (2025), two stages of the Tour de l'Avenir (2025), and twice the Giro della Valle d'Aosta-Mont Blanc (2024 and 2025). Additionally, Widar crowned himself European U23 champion in early October.
