Jhonatan Narvaez suffers multiple fractures after crash in Australia

Jhonatan Narvaez has fractured several vertebrae in a crash at the Tour Down Under. The Ecuadorian had to abandon in Australia on Friday night while he was second in the general classification.

UAE Emirates XRG reports that Narvaez was taken to the hospital after his fall. The fractures were confirmed there. "At this moment, Jhonny does not require surgery. He is stable and will remain in the hospital for further observation," his team said.

Narvaez is not the only UAE rider who crashed in Australia on Friday night. UAE reports that Vegard Stake Laengen was also taken to the hospital after the fourth stage Down Under. The team suspects the Norwegian has sustained a rib injury.
