Jordi Meeus strikes in Le Samyn: "This opening weekend was a big goal for me"

Jordi Meeus has claimed his first victory of 2026. The Belgian sprinter from Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe proved to be by far the fastest in the Ename-Samyn Classic. "It's super nice to win here," he said in the post-race flash interview.

"This Opening Weekend – with the Omloop, Kuurne, and Samyn – was a big target for me," continued Meeus, who finished seventh in the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad and tenth in Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne. Now, he secured a win. "I'm very happy to go home with a victory after these races."

Hard-Fought
Meeus won the sprint convincingly, but for him, it didn’t feel easy at all. "Oh no, I really suffered. The lead-up was already tough. They rode hard on that slight uphill section leading to the final straight. I was pretty much at my limit but still had a good sprint left in my legs."

"It’s not easy to win as the favorite, but the legs were good. That’s actually been the case all season. I think the previous races showed that there was more in me than the results indicated, so I’m very happy I could deliver a strong sprint today."
