UAE Emirates XRG announced on Monday evening that Juan Ayuso will leave the team after this season. Now, the Spanish rider himself has also shared a message with the public about his departure. In his statement, Ayuso says, among other things, that he feels the need for a place where he can 'develop further with complete confidence and peace of mind.'
"After an incredible journey, my path and that of UAE Emirates will part ways," Ayuso begins his message. "I want to thank the team for all the support and opportunities they have given me. I have grown immensely, both as a cyclist and as a person, and I will always be grateful for it."
"I have had many wonderful years with the team and leave behind many friends and amazing professionals whom I will never forget. Yet, on a personal level, I feel it is time to find an environment that better fits who I am and my values – a place where I can continue to grow with complete confidence and peace of mind."
"I feel that now is the time to pursue new challenges and opportunities, in a place that shares the same vision as I do. I look forward to what the future holds and am grateful for the support from all my fans. I will do my utmost to finish the season with UAE Emirates in the best possible way, in all the races still ahead this year."
Lidl-Trek?
It is not yet known where Ayuso will continue his career. However, it is clear that Lidl-Trek is interested in signing the Spaniard, and according to the sports newspaper AS, the 22-year-old stage racer is on the verge of signing with the American team. They reportedly see Ayuso, who is currently riding the Vuelta a España, as the ideal leader for the Grand Tours.
