After eight(!) consecutive victories, the reign of Lars van der Haar at the Kiremko Nacht van Woerden has come to an end. This time, the Dutchman could only manage fifth place in the evening cyclocross, but afterwards, the glass was still half full. After all, there are mitigating circumstances.
So, after the Kiremko Nacht van Woerden, Van der Haar did not stand on the top step of the podium, following an impressive streak of eight consecutive wins. That must feel a bit strange for the experienced cyclocross rider, right? "Shit, huh," Van der Haar could still laugh about it in an interview with WielerFlits. "It is what it is."
"At the moment, I’m simply not in top shape, and of course, there are other riders who want to win and are just a bit better. Did I expect it? Today (Tuesday, ed.) was definitely the best chance."
Upward trend
"Right now, I’m really just not in form, although I do feel an upward trend. I already felt much better here than in the previous races. I’m looking ahead optimistically for the rest of the season."
But what exactly is going on with Van der Haar? "Before the race in Meulebeke, I had bruised ribs, which still bother me a little. After Meulebeke, I was also sick, with two days of fever. Then it’s a long road," he explained.
