Lucinda Brand secured her fifth consecutive win in Sardinia and also achieved her 51st consecutive podium finish. At the finish line and in the flash interview, the Dutch cyclocross rider was visibly emotional, but this was due to her home situation.
What exactly is going on at home, Brand left unclear afterwards. "But it's not ideal," she said tearfully.
She then began talking about the race. She broke away alone early on – which raised some doubts. "I saw early that Aniek got briefly held up, so I pushed to see what would happen. When I came out alone, I thought: this is quite a challenge."
"It’s not easy to ride solo, but fortunately it quickly became one-on-one, and later Shirin joined, which worked out well for me. I felt good. Today's course is different than in Namur, but I’m looking forward to it," she concluded.
