Mary Kate McCarthy has once again won the Esports World Championship, just like last year. The New Zealand top favorite took the lead from the start and never gave it up. Brazilian Gabriela Guerra claimed the silver again. The thrilling battle for third place was narrowly won by Italian Francesca Tommasi, with a one-point difference. The contest for the women’s world title was decided over three virtual races held shortly after one another. On the virtual MyWhoosh platform, a mountain stage, a hilly stage, and a sprint stage were designed.
In The Mountain’s Verdict, the first stage, McCarthy immediately made her mark. On the mountain stage, where a virtual line with a two-minute deficit overtook the riders, she quickly opened up a large gap. On the eight-kilometer climb with a gradually increasing gradient, she maintained her effort for 19:36. Guerra was overtaken by the chasing line at 17:16 as the second-to-last rider. Every five seconds were rewarded with one point.
Also in the second stage, the hilly Puncher’s Playground, the New Zealander was by far the strongest. With a comfortable lead, she started the concluding sprint stage, where she was never in danger.
