British seasonal breakthrough Matthew Brennan has signed a new contract with Visma | Lease a Bike for the third time in just over two years. The Dutch WorldTeam has now secured him until the end of 2029, after he had previously signed an agreement with the team until the end of 2027.
Brennan is only 20 years old, but he is one of the most promising riders of the moment. The young Brit joined Team Visma | Lease a Bike’s WorldTeam at the beginning of 2025, after already impressing at the development team of the Dutch cycling squad.
Throughout this season, Brennan continued to pleasantly surprise himself and the team. His race program was adjusted several times as he consistently showed he could compete at a higher level. Highlights included stage wins in the Volta a Catalunya, Tour of Romandie, and Tour of Poland. He ended the season with fourteen victories in 2025, twelve of which were at the pro level.
"Long-term project"
"Matthew has truly surprised us in a positive way this season," said Visma | Lease a Bike Head of Racing Grischa Niermann. "We already knew him well since we developed him ourselves. As a team, we continuously adapted to his level and offered him races and challenges tailored to him. He has made big strides in his development this year but still has plenty to learn."
"We see working with him as a long-term project, which is why we’re so happy he shares the same view. In the coming years, we want to help him make the step to the very highest level. We expect him to keep surprising us," Niermann concluded.
Brennan confirms Niermann’s words. "It is thanks to the team that I have been able to develop so much already. Everyone can help me become a better rider, both the staff and other riders. Besides that, I feel the trust here that I need. I am happy here and very grateful for the chance to take the next steps in my career over such a long period and without pressure."
