Movistar's roster for the upcoming seasons is gradually taking shape. The Spanish team has already announced a few new signings — including Cian Uijtdebroeks — but has also extended the contracts of no fewer than six riders. This means Nairo Quintana will remain with the team for another year. However, the situation looks much less promising for his fellow countryman Fernando Gaviria.
The team brings good news for Quintana, Orluis Aular, Jefferson Cepeda, Jorge Arcas, Nelson Oliveira, and Albert Torres. These riders will also wear the Spanish telecom squad’s jersey in 2026. Aular (28) and Cepeda (29) have even extended their contracts through the end of 2028.
For experienced riders Arcas (33) and Oliveira (36), the contract extensions cover two seasons until 2027, while fellow thirty-somethings Torres (35) and Quintana (35) have secured one-year renewals.
For another veteran rider, Fernando Gaviria, it seems there is no longer a place at Movistar. This comes as no surprise though, since the sports newspaper Marca had already reported that the former top sprinter must seek a new employer.
The 31-year-old Gaviria reportedly has spoken with team management about his future, but the telecom squad is looking for a “younger sprinter for the future.” The team is also saying goodbye to Will Barta, Davide Cimolai, Ruben Guerreiro, Gregor Mühlberger, Mathias Norsgaard, and Antonio Pedrero. Of these riders, Pedrero, Cimolai, and Guerreiro have yet to secure contracts for 2026.
