Olympic skater Sandrine Tas sprints to first pro win in Brittany

Sandrine Tas has secured her first professional victory as a cyclist. The 30-year-old rider from Lotto-Intermarché Ladies, who was active last winter as a long-track speed skater at the Olympic Winter Games and now fully focuses on racing, won the opening stage of the Bretagne Ladies Tour on Friday. Hélène Hesters finished third in the stage.

The Bretagne Ladies Tour began with a hilly stage from the coastal town of Ploemeur to Plouay. After 121 kilometers of racing, a peloton of about forty riders remained. In the sprint that followed, Tas proved to be the fastest. She took the win ahead of former world champion Amalie Dideriksen (Cofidis) and track specialist Hélène Hesters (Liv AlUla Jayco Women).

Tas is also the first leader of the Bretagne Ladies Tour, which continues through Sunday. On Saturday, there is an individual time trial of 24.7 kilometers on the program, followed by a relatively flat stage to Laval on Sunday.
