Don’t look for Pim Ronhaar and Shirin van Anrooij in Diegem tonight. Both riders from the Baloise Glowi Lions team are dealing with back injuries and have decided to skip the Superprestige race.
Ronhaar has been struggling with his form for some time. In Heusden-Zolder he had to withdraw due to back pain, and since his fourth place in the Antwerp World Cup (December 20), Ronhaar has not finished in the top 10 of a cyclocross race. In Gavere and Dendermonde, he finished 25th and 32nd respectively.
For Van Anrooij, the race in Dendermonde was also a battle against herself. “I have back pain and no strength in my legs after my crash two days ago (in Gavere, ed.). It felt like a fight against myself from start to finish. It’s time to have everything checked out and focus on the next race,” she said afterwards.
Baloise Glowi Lions is not taking any risks with the Dutch cyclocrossers and is giving them rest for the Diegem race. When they will be back at the start of a race is not yet known.
