Primoz Roglic still has an ongoing contract with Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe, but will we see the now 36-year-old Slovenian back in the peloton next year? When asked about his plans for 2026, the Grand Tour rider gave an unusual answer.
"My future? A wise man once said: We’ll see. We’ll see how today goes and the weeks to come, but normally I will still be riding next year," he told Eurosport before the start of the Italian one-day race Tre Valli Varesine.
With his arrival in 2024, Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe seemed to have signed a clear team leader in Roglic. But this season, several of the Slovenian’s teammates have made an (at least equally) strong impression. Florian Lipowitz finished third in the Tour de France, Jai Hindley took fourth overall in the Vuelta, and the young Giulio Pellizzari recorded two sixth places in the Giro and Vuelta.
New hierarchy
Adding to this is the fact that Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe has managed to bring in Remco Evenepoel as a new team leader for stage races, which seems set to shake up the pecking order again. Roglic himself has not yet spoken with his new Belgian teammate, but if the Slovenian has his way, that will change soon. "We haven’t talked to Remco yet, but I want to sit down with him," he said earlier to the Slovenian Delo.
"I think it will be very important for us to have an open and honest relationship from the start of our collaboration." Roglic has also not yet discussed Evenepoel’s arrival with the team management. "There hasn't been any talk yet within the team about what will happen next season," the Slovenian states.
