Remco Evenepoel is going on vacation in the coming weeks and really needs it. He said this on Wednesday to VTM Nieuws at an event for his own R.EV Brussels Cycling Academy with young cyclists.
"Honestly, I haven’t had much of an offseason yet," Evenepoel said from his hometown of Schepdaal. The transfer from Soudal Quick-Step to Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe was a complex affair. "I had many obligations with the team and had to travel to the US and several times to Salzburg. It only really became offseason a few days ago, and from now on it’s two or three weeks of vacation and proper rest."
The trip to the United States was mainly to spend time in the wind tunnel of bike sponsor Specialized, of which Evenepoel is also an ambassador. "Remco’s days were well filled, but he often wants to do even more. His dedication and eye for detail are impressive," a Specialized employee already said. "He is as precise as a Formula 1 driver."
On Wednesday, Evenepoel also surprised the young cycling talents of his R.EV Brussels Cycling Academy in Schepdaal. He can’t often be present because he leaves training sessions to his father Patrick Evenepoel and other coaches. "But when real decisions need to be made, I will have my say," he told VTM.
