The Plage Cross in Hofstade returns to the calendar after seventeen years with a bang. The Plage Cross could very well become the busiest cyclocross race of the immensely popular Christmas season. Organizer Golazo, through director Christophe Impens, states that Hofstade – apart from the upcoming World Championships in Hulst – will be one of the most attended cyclocross races of the season.
Impens told WielerFlits that more than 11,000 admission tickets have already been sold via online presale. Additionally, more single tickets will be available at the box office on race day, Monday. "This will be one of the most attended cyclocross events of the season, except for the World Championships in Hulst, of course," says the Golazo director. In Hofstade, spectators will witness a new showdown between Mathieu van der Poel and Wout van Aert.
Belgian champion Thibau Nys will also be present, while nearly all of the top female riders will compete as well for the return of Hofstade. On Tuesday, presale was just above 6,000 tickets, which was already very high at that point, organizer Erwin Vervecken explained. In the last few days, that number has nearly doubled. Hofstade has an additional ace up its sleeve: "Hosting the Turbo Cross with Average Rob allows us to attract an audience of teenagers and young adults."
