Tibor Del Grosso entertains cycling fans as attacker and showman in Strade Bianche
Tibor Del Grosso made his season debut on Saturday at Strade Bianche, and it didn’t go unnoticed. The Dutch rider was active in the early breakaway and once caught and left behind, showed off with some impressive wheelies.
The Alpecin-Premier Tech rider is known as a playful character and a born entertainer, and he certainly didn’t disappoint in the Italian race over the white gravel roads.
In footage shared by his team, you can see Del Grosso pulling off a classic wheelie on one of the sloping gravel sections. But he didn’t stop there; on the final steep climb of the day – the Via Santa Catarina in Siena – he repeated the stunt.

About the race
Del Grosso, who crossed the line 76th in Siena, looked back on his first road race of 2026 with WielerFlits. The 22-year-old rider was immediately alert and managed to sneak into the day’s breakaway. “We had a good group and I felt pretty good too, but we already had to ride very hard to stay ahead. We never got much space.”
“When we were caught at the bottom of the Monte Sante Marie, the best was already gone,” the Alpecin-Premier Tech rider reflects. “After that, I just missed the second group and ended up in a third, large group. I stayed there until about fifteen kilometers to go, but then I had to take a restroom break and afterwards rode calmly to the finish.”
Whether Strade Bianche is tailor-made for Del Grosso, he himself doubts. “Maybe five years ago it was. But now the race has 4,000 meters of elevation gain. I’m not really a climber, so I’m not so sure. Do I have a good feeling after my first race of the season? Meh, not really. But I’m glad it’s back on the calendar.”
