Tibor Del Grosso on mixed relay world title: "This win means a lot, it's really cool"
Leonie Bentveld, Guus van den Eijnden, Tibor Del Grosso, Isis Versluis, Delano Heeren, and Shirin van Anrooij have been crowned Mixed Relay world champions. After preparatory efforts by the juniors and under-23 riders, Van Anrooij and Del Grosso skillfully sealed the victory. Versluis and Del Grosso react on camera afterward.
"This win means a lot," begins Del Grosso. "We came here to win and did everything to achieve that. It was a very strong team performance, and it's really cool to win on home soil."
"We are all very close, including the staff. They do everything to make sure everything runs smoothly for a Mixed Relay, and the logistics are a huge challenge. Maybe that’s our strength, that we all have such great chemistry and morale."
Versluis' Key Role
Versluis also spoke after the race. The 16-year-old cyclocross rider played a key role in securing the world title by keeping the gap on Sara Casasola manageable. "I’m very happy," she says. "This is my first World Championships, and to win it right away is unbelievable."
"The course was quite technical, and I could even get past her on those sections, but on the straights I noticed she had more power. Now I just slightly injured my finger," she finishes with a laugh.
